In 2005-2006, I was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. It was during the first Iraqi election and the fall of Saddam Hussein’s power. It was definitely an eye-opening experience to say the least. And one of the iconic images I will always associate with that time, is this shot of one of Saddam’s palaces.
It is also my shot today for Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 2-17, which has the theme of K today. My K is the “kingdom” that Saddam created throughout Iraq. Unfortunately, his rule was cruel, unfair and controling over most of the people he claimed to support though.
In this case, it was a good thing for a kingdom to fall. With the fall of the “king” back then, local Iraqis I spoke to had hope in their country. And hope is something every man should have. Hope is what makes a real kingdom powerful. I pray that the true people of Iraqi can continue to have hope as they fight those groups who try to take it away.
