Actually that looks like a cypress knee https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cypress_knee used by the tree to oxygenate.

Cool! I wasn’t sure, so I incorrectly assumed this was how they started, like a sprout that grew from there. Good to learn more about them as I found them so beautiful!
