At a recent wedding I photographed, the couple had a number of handmade items that I found to be so great. They displayed their personalities, their humor and their love. Those are the best weddings to photographed because they have that personal touch and meaning.
On the reception tables, they had these adorable little chalkboards that were trimmed with grass and cute little sayings.
For their ring bearer, they replace the traditional pillow with a small wooden box that was personalized with their name. I found it so adorable that I had to take a few different shots of it.
The most unique item though, was the “guest book” at the reception. Instead of the traditional lines on paper, the guests recorded their attendance on two handmade wooden signs representing the states the bride and groom haled from. And along side the wooden guest books was a baseball cap from the groom’s father who had recently passed away. The added touch of the symbolic hat gave the groom’s family a way to feel dad’s presence at their special day. It was very moving to say the least.
Glamorous and elegant weddings are fun to photograph, but weddings with handmade signs are a special treat. Because to me, they show humor, character and love. And are those great qualities to have in a marriage?
