Thursday Door. Abandoned Art and Stone.

I have a tendency to take tilted photos, but this time, it was because I was nervous.

When I worked at the photo studio, one of my coworkers was always laughing how my pictures seemed to have a tilt to them. I have worked on correcting it through awareness and post editing. However, in this shot, my natural tilt came out again and probably because I was a little anxious. I was wandering around taking pictures of buildings downtown and came upon this abandoned one. As I walked up to the door, I noticed a homeless man sleeping there on the right. About the same time, there was a strange noise that startled me. Not that all homeless people are dangerous, but I have met a few here and there who have been aggressive and made me uncomfortable. I also try to respect all people and not just photograph them without their consent. So between the noise and the sudden awareness that there was someone next to the door, I was shooting on pure reflex, which includes my natural tilt. So I figured, I may as well not edit it out as it is now part of the picture’s story.

  1. Great shot Michelle, this must have been something to see in its heyday. I think this person sleeping there just adds to the mood of this image. I do know what you mean about not wanting to intrude though. One of the reasons while I’ll never be a good street photographer.
    Thanks for sharing this ☺

    1. Thanks. I’d love to go get gritty street images but, I’ve been kind of scared a few times when giving food to homeless and they have reacted aggressively. So I’m a little hesitant now.

  2. This is a very good photo of a door that has seen better times. It looks like it once was a fairly grand entry way to something. I understand your apprehension about taking photos with people in them. Ifeel funny, particularly if there are homeless people nearby. I don’t want to intrude on their personal space, however lilmited it it.

    1. It really is great building. I have more of this building too. Of course, I still need to post more pics of the last door building I posted too. (The church door from last week.) I am falling behind here, lol.
